Children’s Colourful Fancy Dress Ball
Young People Have Happy Time On Friday evening in the A. and P. Hall Kaitaia young people enjoyed a most successful fancy dress ball. A well varied selection of costumes lent a bright and attractive appearance to the hall. It was obvious that much hard work had gone into the making of costumes. Judging as usual was extremely difficult and the judges, Mesdames Niblock and Morpeth and Miss Pat Marsh, finallymade the following selection of prize winners : Best Costume : Girls Faith Brent as a crystal gazer ; Boys Barry Maria as a Mexican. Second : Girls—Shirley Whitburn as a Hawaiian ; Boys—Ross Theed as a naval officer. Best Pair : Nancy and Alan Richardson (Early Victorian). Most Original ■ Girls—Ethel Jarnet (Traffic Signal) Ist, Mavis McIn osh (Hot Water Bottle) 2nd; Boys —Pat Thornton (Father Time) Ist, Gilbert Stimpson (Carpenter) 2nd. Mr. V. Kingdon was m.c. for the evening and the music was supplied by Mrs. E. Rule and Mrs. H. A. Timbers. During the evening the Rev. D. H. Niblock, on behalf of the Young People, presented Mrs. Rule with a travelling bag in appreciation of her services during the year. Monte carlo winners were Barbara Johnson and Mary Holder, Mary Northwood and Douglas Booth, while Rex Heywood won the parcel game.
