No definite decision has as yet been made by Kaitaia businessmen as the result of the new award making compulsory a five-day week for grocers. It is believed that suit has been filed through the Magistrates’ Coui! to have Kaitaia made exempt. A meeting of businessmen is to be held in the Parish Hall at 7.30 this evening to discuss the matter fully.

Personal Mrs. Ede arrived on Saturday last to take up her duty as assistant teacher at the Kaingaroa School. Mr. G. Rapanua left on Monday to spend a short vacation in Auckland. Mrs. C. Wallace has returned nomc after spending a few days with her daughter, Mrs. L. McCann. Friends of Mrs. C. IJykins will be pleased t 0 know that she has returned home after being an inmate of the Kaitaia hospital for several weeks, and is progressing rapidly. Mr. J. Stewart is spending a lortnight’s holiday with his parents, Mr and Mrs. B. Stewart. Mr. V. Spanhake has returned none after a short trip to Russell. Mrs. E. G. Smith has returned home after a short stay in Taranaki Young People's Club • A Kaingaroa Young People’s Club evening was held last Friday night. Everyone who attended enjoyed themselves immensely. Joint ms.c. were Mr. B. Spanhake and Mr. G. Rapanua A very delicious supper was served by members of the Club. Master Richard Waitohi rendered a song. The pianist was Mrs. R. Read .vith extras by Mr. G. Rapanua. The happy evening broke up at midnight. Tennis Court Progressing A working-bee gathered at Kaingaroa last Saturday and worked on tne tennis court. Lady members of the Club served a very nice lunch ard afternoon tea which the men enjoyed very much. It is hoped that the tennis court will be completed before Christmas. Soft Ball The Kaingaroa team played the Awanui team at Kaingaroa on Saturday last. The local team was defeated by 25 to 15.

Petrol Explosion Joseph Perry, about 22, of Pawa-l-enga, was severely burned about the face, back of the head and chest, when a small amount of petrol in the bottom of a l-trallon tin exploded on Saturday. He was taken by taxi to the Kaituia Hospital.
