WILLIAM McIVOR VICKERS After an illness of three months, William Mclvor Vickers died peacefully at his home in Kaitaia yesterday at the age of 78. Born in Canterbury, William Vickers was for a long period head ploughman on the large estate owned by the Rhodes family. When the estate was later cut up William VicKers leased an area and cropped it. In Canterbury he was recognised as one of the best horsemen and fastest blade shearei’s of the time. In 1901 he came to Herekino where he commenced contracting on the roads, later taking up the farm where he lived until about two yeai’s ago. A very successful farmer, William Vickers was always keenly interested in Farmers’ Union matters and all local affairs in his own disti’ict. He was a keen enthusiast of dog trials, taking many prizes in this connection. William Vickei’s was at one time a member of the Hokianga County Council, while in 1929 he became Chairman of the Mangonui County Council until 1930. In 1931 he again became Chairman, holding that position until 1938. William Vickers worked enei’getically during the war years for the raising of funds, while he was aso a member of the Masonic F'raternity. On his retirement from farming about two years ago, he built a residence in Kaitaia where he lived until the time of his death. He leaves a widow. There are several brothers and sisters in various pai’ts of New Zealand. The funeral was held at 2.30 today.

ARTHUR HUGH TRIGG It is with deep regret that we report the death of Arthur Hugh Trigg of Kauri, Whangarei North, and formerly of Victoi’ia Valley. He died suddenly on Saturday afternoon. When Mi’s. Trigg and a neighbour, Mr. C. W. Cann, returned from the show at Kensington Park, they found that the cows had not been milked. Mr. Trigg’s horses were standing where he had been ploughing and Mr. Trigg was found lying face downwards in a fui’i’ow. A doctor was called but life was extinct. Born in Victoria Valley on August 11, 1917, Ai’thur Trigg was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Flank Trigg. His eai’ly education was at the Victoria Valley School but on the death of Mr. Trigg Snr., the family shifted to Whangarei where Ai’thur attended the High School. After the death of his mother, Mr. Trigg returned to the Valley where he was engaged mainly in farming. On his return from sei-ving overseas in the Army he sold his Kaitaia propei’ty and purchased a farm at Kauri where the family have been living since April. He is sux-vived by a wife (formerly Miss Elsie Crene of Kaitaia) and daughter. Mr. Barry Trigg of Victoria Valley and the late Flying Officer Lloyd Trigg V.C., wei-e brothers, while Mi's. Reynolds of Nelson is the only sister. Arthur Trigg took part in all forms of spoi’t and activity in the district. Admired and inspected, he was popular with all with whom he came into 1 contact. His passing will be regretted j by many. The laxgely attended funeral service was conducted by Rev. Graham at Victoi’ia Valley yesterday. Pall bearers were all returned men while I a guard of honour was formed by i returned men and schoolchildren. i ACCIDENT IN COMMERCE ST. About 8.45 last evening Mr. Ken | Timbers of Kaitaia was riding his j motor cycle along Commerce Si. when he came into contact with a j pedestrian, Heki James. The accij dent occurred almost directly outside i the gate of the Lynton. Both parties were thrown heavily ! to the ground but members of the Mangonui Ambulance Association at a nearby meeting were quickly in atI tendance. Mr. Timbers received preliminary attention and he was then taken to ! the Kaitaia Hospital by private car. He was suffering badly from shock and the actual extent of his injury is | as yet unknown. It is expected however that he will be an inmate of the hospital for two or three days. Heki James was not seriously injured and the motor cycle was not ! extensively damaged.
