Down the Street
By Random There must have been some other attraction on last Thursday evening; at a table tennis meeting there were 9 present, and at a football meeting 5 attended. „ ■C, It will not be surprising if there is an influx of Auckland visitors next week as we hear that one visitor wrote home reporting that he had seen an empty barber’s chair on several occasions- lately. ft In preparation for the new school term a large yellow and black sign has been erected on the corner of Commerce Street and Redan Road, urging drovers to exercise care when school children are around. From reports of cruelty at the Auckland Zoo it is time a sign was erected warning animals to take the utmost care when people are around. <r One ardent swing fan on a visit to Kaitaia went into the local music shop on the offchance of ordering a record or two and was amazed when confronted with a huge stack of the best and latest swing records available. * Conversation these days seems to be centred around two main items—the excess of rain and the lack of houses. Windows in some of the State houses not yet occupied, have been in so long that they will have to be replaced as one or two are beginning to crack. * Business at the Hospital Board’s meeting on Thursday was expedited on account of the torrential rain, with the danger of flooding, but it still did not prevent members returning from their cars to the Board room upon the late arrival of afternoon toe. * This morning passers-by in Commerce Street were set thinking as to the occasion being celebrated today. An unusual flag was fluttering at the masthead of the Post Office, but on closer inspection this proved to be a rather large sized but necessary article of ladies’ underwear.
