Kaitaia Scottish Society

There was an excellent attendance of both young and old people at the monthly Ingleside held in the Masonic Hall last Saturday and the Chief (Mr. J. Morrison) voiced the feelings of all present in welcoming back Mr. J. Cowie to take charge of the community singing with his customary skill. The programme was in the hands of Mrs. E. White and Mr. E. Panther, and the vocal and other items between dances were much appreciated, particularly a song of his own composition given by L.A.C. Hildreth and a vocal duet by Mrs. Rule and her sister, Mrs. Jones. Dance music and accompaniments were played by Mrs. Rule, Mrs. Horsley, Miss K. Parker, Mr. E. Hansen and L.A.C. Hildreth. The monte carlo waltz was won by Mrs. C. Panther and Aircraftsman B. Fleming, and a special novelty waltz caused much amusement. Items were as follows : Russian dance—Miss Caroline Torrie; Vocal duet—Mesdames Rule and Jones; Dutch dance —Misses C. Torrie and A. Goodhew; Highland Reel— Misses Jean Cowie, Helen Matthews, Althea Goodhew and Dorothy Foley; Song— L.A.C. Hildreth, R.N.Z.A.F.; Sailors’ Hornpipe Miss Ellen Matthews; Song—Mrs. Rule. In addition the Sc -iety had donated £4 16/ to provide eight soldiers’ parcels, and a further £4 16/ will be forthcoming next quarter.
