UMAWERA WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

Ihe Umawera Women’s Institute held its monthly meeting on Wednesday, July 7, with a fair attendance. Remits were revised in preparation for the departure of the delegate, Mrs. Lees, to the conference. It was finally agreed that the Institute be responsible for organising a Children’s fancy dress ball, to be held on August 27, in the Umawera Hall. The President delivered a short address on post-war re-construction, giving members ideas for discussing this important subject the following month. The motto was then given:— Prepare for the worst, and hope for the best.” The Roll Call, economical recipes met with a varied response. The competition for a darned sock had many entries, Mrs. Lees receiving first place, Mrs. Kennedy second, and Miss D. Gray third. Hostesses for the day were Mesdames Fostlewaight, Gray, and Dawes.
