From Our Correspondent at AWANUI

Red Cross Society The usual weekly lecture of the Awanui branch of the Red Cross Society was held last Thursday evening in the Forester’s hall. The fact that heavy rain was falling did not prevent a good muster of members. The lecturer was Dr. Simcock of Kaitaia. This was the sixth lecture of the eourse and the subject taken was the second half of the lecture on Hemorrhages. Members were shown where to find arteries and veins, whether bleeding was from an artery or a vein, and how to stop the bleeding. The treatment of bruises was also given. At the conclusion of the lecture, Dr. Simcock gave a brief refresher of all the previous lessons in bandaging. The next lecture will be held next Thursday. Record Production That the recent spell of wet weather has done the country good is clearly shown in the factory production day' by day. It has been gradually creeping up since the rain ceased and yesterday a new record for one day’s make was established of 464 boxes. There is every indication of this new figure being eclipsed before the season is much older. Purely Personal Mr. A. Horsman of the Customs Office. Auckland, is at present on annual leave and is staying with Mr. and Mrs. B. Dykins of Awanui. One of Mr. Horsman’s hobbies is sketching and he has made some fine sketches of some of our places of interest. Mr. J. Stansfield of the Awanui Post Office is at present an inmate of the Kaitaia hospital. Calf Club and Sweet Pea ShowPostponed The Calf Club and Sweet Pea Club show which was to have been held last Friday at the Awanui school was postponed indefinitely on account of inclement weather. “Tiri” Held Up The very rough weather conditions of the past week have caused a holdup of several days in the sailing of A. G. Frankham’s “Tiri.” She was due to sail last Tuesday but did not get away until yesterday. Pedigree Ayrshires for Awanui An item of news that should interest all local pedigree cattle breeders, is the importation into the district by Mr. J. Frew of Spain’s road, Awanui, of_a very select line of Ayrshire heifers. These fine animals are from the “Bonny Glen” stud, one of the Dominion’s leading herds for type and production, and are very well grown and in excellent condition. They are from the high producing dams for which the stud is noted and several of them have been mated to “Ardgowan Copper King,” first prize two-year-old bull at the last Royal Show. The two-year-old heifers purchased previously by Mr. Frew from the same stud are milking well up to expectations and are giving every satisfaction.
