Boxing and Wrestling Tourney at Kaitaia

All lovers of the manly sports of boxing: and wrestling will hail with delight the news that a tournament is to be staged in the A. and P. hall, Kaitaia, on Saturday, 9th December, commencing at 8 p.m. The tournament has been arranged by the committee of the Physical Culture and Athletic Club, who have been so successful in the past with the organisation of displays and swimming events ; all athletes, the personnel of the committee know what they are about when they set their minds to arrange this sports display, and anticipations will be just about right that the boxing and wrestling on Saturday night is going to be the biggest thing in entertainment Kaitaia has witnessed for many months, if not yearn. The combatants will be taken from the members of the gymnasium which has been in operation for the past several months, and if reports concerning the skill and condition is correct, the bouts should be keenly contested and full of thrills. The committee is guaranteeing that there will be a minimum of delay between the bouts which will be refereed by Mr. E. Morfette of Kaikohe, an official member of the Auckland Boxing and Referees’ Association. The tourna ment will be conducted under police permit, in a full-sized regulation ring, so intending onlookers may rest assured that there is going to be nothing lackadaisical about the business. It has been on very rare occasions that entertainment of this description has been staged in the district, • and any tournaments—that have been organised have always been well supported and enjoyed by the public. The Awanui Club were responsible for the last one to be held in the district, this being arranged on a large-scale basis ; it was run on the proper lines and has set a standard for the Kaitaia committee to surpass next week.
