First-Aid Work at Ahipara

On Tuesday morning the District nurse gave the first of a series of lectures on first-aid woi-k to the members of the Ahipai'a School Red Cross Circle.

For her subject, Nurse Merlet took the application of splints to fractures since broken limbs are fairly frequent as a i-esult of motor crashes and too strenuous sports. The members listened most attentively to the lectui-e and followed with keen attention the treatment of a somewhat embarrassed volunteer patient. In returning thanks to Nurse Merlet for her valuable lessons, Master Clifford Berghan, chairman of the local Red Cross Cii-cle, said that the succeeding lectures would be eagerly awaited. Card Evening at Ahipara School The Ahipara school social club held its foux-th gathei-ing on Tuesday when a lai’gely increased attendance was recorded. Mrs. M. Boys for Flock House A third representative of the Ahipara school, in the person of Hepa Paratene, has now taken up his residence at Flock House. The training given thei-e seems to be ideally suited to the future of the Maoris, who have now to look to daix-y fax-ming as their main occupation. Access Road to Beach A much impi-oved access road to the Ninety Mile beach through the Ahipara beach township is now in good order as a result oi the work of the unemployed men of the district. This l-oad avoids the usual difficult sand approach and permits motorists desiring to go noi-th to do so without crossing the ci-eek. For those who wish to put in a pleasant picnic afternoon the road offers access to grassy flats lining the beach. It is already being used considerably, and with the coming of summer should be a very busy thoi-oughfare indeed.
