Miss Dulieu of Christchurch, is stopping with friends in Kaitaia. Mrs. Allan Matthews of Awanui, is visiting Auckland and Hamilton. Mr. and Mrs. B. Beard of Awanui have returned from a trip south. Mrs. E. Bedggood has returned to Kaitaia after a trip to Auckland. Miss Brereton of Nelson, is visiting her sister, Mrs. F. Holder, of Kaitaia. Miss Elsie Crene returns, today, Friday, from a holiday visit to Auckland. Mr. B. J. M. Pole of the Mangonui Bank of Australasia staff, is away on annual leave. Mr. D. Hudson, formerly a resident of this town, paid a brief visit to Kaitaia this week. Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Murray of Herekino have returned fx-om a trip to Auckland and Whakatane. Mr. R. Rogers the present relieving headmaster at Takahue, has been appointed as sole teacher at Patuaua, near Whangarei. Constable H. H. Smith of Mangonui has received notice of his transfer to Hikurangi. Constable W. R. Miller of Foxton, will be transferred to Mangonui. Mr. and Mrs. Eric Stensness of Kaitaia, left for Auckland this week. Mr. Stensness was unfortunate in injuring his hand while at woi - k. Mr. D. Saunders of Auckland, has been appointed headmaster of the Takahue school. He will take up his duties on September 6. Mrs T. J. Coulter of Fairburn who who has been seriously ill at the County Hospital, is now on the road to recovery. Mr. James Gai'cia, senior repoi'ter on the “Taranaki Daily News,’ visited Kaitaia this week in the course of a tour of the North. Mrs. L. J. Elliston and her small son returned to Wellington this moi-n----ing, after visiting her mother, Mrs. C. Crene of Kaitaia. Mi-. J. W. Chapman, formerly of Pai-enga, but lately of Auckland, has pur-chased a small fann at Pukenui where he intends to take up his futui'e residence.

DEATH OF MRS. HADFIELD The death of Mrs. Hadfield occurred in her residence at Manukau last Sunday. Deceased leaves a widower and a son and daughter. This is the third death that has occurred in the same house within a few months.

FAIRBURN WOMEN’S INSTITUTE The August meeting of the Fairburn Women’s Institute was held in the hall on Wednesday, when Mrs. Lupton pi-esided over a fair attendance of members and welcomed several visitors. Reference was made to the passing of the nonagenarian, Mr. W. A. Gax-diner, and sympathy was expressed with the relatives. After the rountine business had been dealt with, a very much appreciated demonsti’ation on paper pulp was given by Mrs. Vazey, illustrated by specimens of the finished article. A talk on “Pioneer Days” was given by Miss Dorothy Atkinson. The monthly gift was won by Miss B. Thomas and a second gift was won by Mrs. Tracey. The l-01l call was “a favourite recipe or a cooking hint.” The monthly competition was a jar of spring flowers, and a sandwich d’oyley or a bi-assiere. The serving of a delightful afternoon tea by the Kaiaka members, concluded a very enjoyable meeting. CROQUET CARD AFTERNOON The members of the Kaitaia Croquet Club held a card afternoon, yesterday, Thursday, in aid of the funds. The winning players were Mesdanxes L. Pettit, W. Parker and A. G. Bell, the travelling prizes going to Mesdames A. Gray, F. Mitchell an l Mrs Spragg of Auckland. Mesdames F. Holder, F. Puckey and L. Marks secured the consolations, while the winners of the competitions were Mesdames D. Buckle and A. Wilkinson. The hostesses for the afternoon, were Mesdames J. B. Reynolds, H. Bagley and F. Holder. Herekino Defeats Broadwood at Table Tennis Last Friday an enjoyable evening was held in James Hall, Herekino, where matches were played between Herekino and Broadwood table tennis clubs. Herekino defeated the visitors. A very dainty supper was served.
