NORTH AUCKLAND BASKETBALL ASSOCIATION Annual Meeting The annual meeting of the North Auckland Basketball Council was held at the High School, Whangarei, on Saturday, 14th August, the president, Mr. R. L. McNabb, being in the chair. The following delegates were present : Misses Geard and Urlich (Mangonui), Mr. L. Barrell (Hokianga), Mr. R. Tudehope and Mrs. Spring (Whangarei), Misses Birtles and Smith (Otamatea), Mr. H. Wilkinson and Miss Holmes (Northern Wairoa), in addition to Mr. J. Tudehope (treasurer), Mr. S. Lowe (vicepresident) and Mrs. McNabb (secretary). Report and Balance Sheet The president welcomed the delegates after which the report and balance sheet, disclosing a small credit, were adopted. Business Transactions Following was the chief business approved : That the next annual tournament be held at Kaitaia in the August school vacation. That the annual sub be 10/- per team. That the budget be approved. That when possible the annual toux - - nament be held alternately in the Northern and Southern zones. That the financial year conclude on 30th June. That the delegates be instructed to vote against any radical change in the basketball rules. That the Southern boundary of the Otamatea county be approved as the Southern boundary of the North Auckland Basketball Association. That payment for the championship shield be approved. Election of Officers Patroness—Mrs. J. G. Coates (reelected). President—Mr. R. L McNabb (reelected). Vice-Presidents—Mr. H. F. Wilkinson (Dargaville) and Mr. L. Barrel (Motukaraka). Hon. Secretary—Mrs. McNabb (reelected). Hon. Treasurer—Mr. J. Tudehope tre-eiected). Hon. Auditor—Mr. W. T. Surman. Vote of Thanks At the conclusion of a very satisfactory meeting the president tendered thanks to delegates, referees and other officials and the press, while Mr R. Tudehope moved a vote of appreciation of the work of the past year’s officials. The Tournament A meritorious performance was put up by the Mangonui reps in drawing with Whangarei for the championship shield after a fine day’s sport. In the afternoon the visitors were welcomed by the Mayor. Complimentary Dinner In the evening, a complimentary dinner was tendered in honour of the visiting teams and delegates. In presenting the championship shield to the winning teams, Mangonui and Hokianga, Mr. R. L. McNabb, president of the North Auckland Basketball Association, referred to the efficient manner in which the tournament had been handled by the local Association whose hospitality they had greatly enjoyed. He stressed the social advantages of participation in such gatherings, apart from the opportunity provided for increasing one’s efficiency as a player. The New Zealand tournaments, he remarked, were an education, and he could assure the representatives that they would have a wonderful time in Auckland. Concluding, he trusted that not only would the shield remain an emblem of prowess on the field but also a token of that good fellowship which was the essence of true sportsmanship. North Auckland Tournament At the North Auckland Basketball tournament at Whangarei last Saturday, Mangonui and Whangarei drew for championship honours after many keenly contested games. At the conclusion of the tournament the following were announced as the North Auckland team to take part in the Dominion championship to be held at Auckland :

Manageress—Mrs. Collins ; Captain —Miss Bosslemann ( Whangarei ) ; vice-captain—Mrs. Stitt (Mangonui); Miss West (Whangarei), Miss F. White (Mangonui), Miss P. Wilson (Whangarei), Miss M. Garry (Whangarei), Miss K. Milich (Mangonui), Miss J. Christensen (Mangonui), Miss V. Smeal (Whangarei), Miss P. Rope (Northern Wairoa), Miss M. Grounds (Hokianga) and Miss P. Coates (Otamatea). County Rep. Team to Play Hokianga The folowing have been selected to represent the Mangonui County in c’ne basketball game against the Hokirnga County at Rawene on Saturday August 21 : Goalies —J. Peters, E. Yates, R. Christensen. Centres—N. Taurau, M. Reid, T. Christensen. Defenders—K. Te Maru, S. Cameron, F. Rivers. Eemergency—E. Geard.
