A militarist is a man who is ready to lay down your life for his country. The roll of the Kaitaia D.H. School now stands at 320, an increase during the month of 12 from the 308 on the roll last month. There are 255 pupils in the primary division of the school, the average attendance being 251.0, and 65 in the secondary division, the average attendance being 64.6. It will be noted that the average attendance is particularly high. Annual Meeting of Referees’ Association and Rugby Union The annual meeting of the Mangonui Rugby Football Union will be held in Kaitaia on Wednesday next, the 14th inst., at 8 p.m. The annual meeting of the Referees’ Association will be held on Monday, 12th inst. Annual Meeting of Cooper’s Beach Golf Club The annual meeting of the Cooper’s Beach Golf Club was held in Mangonui last Thursday, and the following officers were elected for the coming year: President—Mr. W. A. Wilton (re-elected); Vice-Presidents Messrs. E. W. Mitchell and J. Feisst; Secretary and Treasurer —Mr. C. P. Casey; Trustees —Messrs. T. Wilton and J. Feisst; Club Captain—Mr. E. W. Mitchell; Committee—Messrs. H. C. Anderson, W. H. Subritzky, W. H. King and T. Wilton and officers; Social Committee—Lady members of the Club. Interment of Accident Victims An impressive ceremony was performed at the Parapara cemetery oh March 31, when Hannah Wright, aged 13, and William Phillips, aged 21, victims of the recent Waipapakauri motor accident, were buried. The burial services were conducted by Mr. Graham Latimer and Mr. Pat Simeon, laymen of the Church of England. Represented at the graveside were Paatu, Rarawa, Aupouri and Ngatikahu, also the Public Works Department, of which Mr. Henry Phillips, father of one of the victims, is foreman. The bearers were tives of the Public Works Depart-, ment, Parapara Native School and relatives.
