TAKAHUE At tbe Takahue Women’s Institute October meeting, Mrs. H. Carr presided over a full meeting, including visitors from Kaitaia. A vote of sympathy was passed to tbe relatives of the late Mrs. Kirtlan senior. Mrs. Allen White gave a demonstration on puff pastry, and Miss Vida Carr won a glass jug in a guessing competition, Miss Iris McCullough being the lucky winner in another. Some very beautiful patchwork cushions and rugs were exhibited, Mrs. 0, Irving winning first place for a rug, and Miss Violet Rogers second for a cushion. In the gardening section Mrs. N. Masters was first for a large bowl of pansies, Mrs. A. White’s bowl of poppies being second. In the junior section Miss Alma Wright was first, and Misses Violet Rogers and Avery Carr second. In the senior section for the best Swiss roll Mrs. H. Carr was first, and Mrs. A. White second, and in tbe junior section Misses Iris and Lily McCullough were first and second respectively. The roll call ‘the day I like best’ caused much amusement. A delicious luncheon was served by Mesdames P. McCullough, Scott and Hodges, and Miss Yolande Bastard. A brisk trade was done at tbe trading table by Mesdames J. Kitchen and J. Ridings. The next meeting will be held on November 28th, lunch being served at 11.30 a.m. * , WAINUI-AHIPARA Tbe Wainui-Ahipara Institute meeting was held yesterday, Thursday, there being a fair attendance. The best starched and ironed serviette was that entered by Mrs. Ivan Berghau with Misses Zita Berghan and Zena Masters second. An amusing game “jumbled names in the Mangonui county”, was won by Mrs. Morice, while Mrs. Shirley Masters won a guessing competition. The roll call “What I would do on finding a burglar in the bouse,” was most amusing. Afternoon tea was served by Mesdames M. Masters and I. J. Berghan, and Misses Zita Berghan and Zena Masters.
