Dyes from Native Plants
i Mrs. Vercamer, of Kaitaia, has received a letter from the Director of the Auckland Museum, thanking her for her assistance at the recent Cheesman Memorial Show in forwarding a collection of wools dyed with native dyes. The various native plants and lichens from which these dyes were made were obtained by the members of the Ahipara Native and Dalmatian, the Manukau Native, and the Waimaru Native Women’s Institutes. The exhibition cl dyes formed quite a striking exhibit, and was very favourably commented on, the brilliant red being mentioned, as it had i been thought that this colour could not be obtained from native plants.
