In and About Town Christmas has once more passed, and with the advent of the New Year campers and visitors who have been spending their holidays in and about Mangonui are now preparing to return to their business and homes. There have been quite a lot of visitors to the township during Christmas, and the housing accommodation lias been taxed to the utmost, every available house and shack having been occupied. * * * * Cooper’B Beach, which is recognised as the best motorist camp in North Auckland, has had, up to the present, just over 300 campers, and they are still coming and going, and right along the coastline to Taipa in every bay and inlet, quite a number of campers have spent their Christmas and New Year. Taipa too has beckoned quite a lot from the country inland and as the fishing has been good this season, needless to say they are most delighted with their trip to the seaside. * * * * New Year was the gala day for the ' whole district, the four aeroplanes which arrived at Cooper’s Beach being kept busy the whole day flying passengers and stunting. The beach was a sight with the aircraft, and the spectators seabathing and picnicking;'2Bo motor-cars, 21 lorries, and a continuous taxi' service brought over 2000 persons to this favoured spot.

Social Gatherings During the Holidays Mr. Blight’s concert held in McKay’s Hall on Thursday 23th proved a great success. The Paranui Company staged 3 plfcyettes which were a credit to the promoters. Mr. Simmers of Auckland Miss Bryers of Rawene and Mr. Blight favoured the audience with songs and elocutionary items.. The hall was packed and quite a number of young folk remained behind to take part in a dance until midnight. • * * * On December 29th Mrs. R. T. Wrathall entertained a number of her friends at a Bridge Evening which continued until midnight when supper was served. The winners of the different sets were Mrs. Dacre, Mr. Hill, and Mrs. Hill and Mr. Hirst. * * * * On Boxing night an impromptu dance was arranged at Cooper's Beach while the picnickers were feeling that way inclined and so a number of them volunteered to arrange for the hall and music and by 9 o'clock McKay’s Hall was filled to overflowing and a mostei joyable evening was v spent. * * * * New Year’s night saw a bumper house at the Town Hall when the dancing space was taxed to its fullest capacity. Music was provided by Garton's Orchestra and Mr. Williams acted as M.C. The proceeds were in aid of the Mangonui Tennis Club and the funds benefited to the extent of about £2O.

The season for big game is February onward so these enthusiasts are getting in early ; but later on Doubtless Bay, Berghan's Heads and Cape Karaka it is hopeil will be the scene of great excitement when angling is entered on in earnest and by the numbers of enquiries that have already been made, February should see a number ofangling enthusiasts iu these waters.
