Car caught by tide on Beach

Last Friday afternood a small sedan car driven by the Rev. W. A. Scott of Kohukoliu was caught oil the Ninety Mile Beach, between Ahipara and Waipapakauri turn-off and was damaged by the waves before it could he salvaged. While proceeding up the beach Mr. Scott ran into a water wash near low water mark, the water getting into the ignition system and stopping the engine. As no help was available and the engine would not start, Mr. Scott had no recourse hut to leave the car, salvaging what liltle he could before the rising tide caught the vehicle. Eaily on Saturday morning Taaffe’s Motors underlook the work of salvaging the car which was found at low water mark. 'The vehicle had been buffetted by the waves but had not sunk in the sand it having apparently been carried by the tide to its position. In the dark and with the car so low on the beach, a difficult job ot salvaging was carried out successfully.

The car which was extensively damaged about the body was brought to Kaitaia and shipped to Whangarei on Wednesday.
