Death of Mrs. S. Blackman

It is with regret we record the death, at midnight o.i Sunday last, of Mrs. Stanlev Blackmail in her 56th year, at the residence of her sister, Mrs. H. S. Matthews, Church Road, Kaitaia. The late Mrs. Blackman, the fifth daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. R. 11. Dunn and a gratid-daughter ot the Rev. Joseph Matthews, was born, and spent her early life at Kaitaia. In 1911 she married Mr. Stanley Blackman who, coming from the Waikato, had taken up land in the Kaitaia district. After farming various sections near Kaitaia, Mr. Blackman enlisted for service in the War and Mrs. Blackman returned to live with her parents. When Mr. Blackman returned from the War he, with his wife moved to Glenfield near Auckland, where he was for some years engaged at farming operations. About four years ago Mrs. Blackman returned to Kaitaia to nurse her mother who was ailing, and she remained at her old home till her mother’s death just on a year ago. About 18 months ago Mrs. Blackmail was taken ill and about nine months ago she was removed to the Whangarei Hospital for treatment. After some months in that institution she was nursed by her sister, Mrs. Elmsley at her home in Whangarei. Later the sufferer was brought to Kaitaia and she was cared for by her sisters, Mrs. L. J. Hester, Mrs. A. H. Puckey, Mrs. J, Pearson and Mrs. 11. S. Matthews. Mr. Blackman to be near his wife was living in Whangarei during the time that she was there, and is now with Mr. A. H. Puckey at Kaitaia. Of a kindly disposition the late Mrs. Blackmail bore her long and painful illness with a cheerful fortitude that made her a model patient for those who were attending her. The sympathy of the district is extended to the bereaved husband, and the sisters, Mrs. C. Werner of Kaitaia and Mrs. Keay of Auckland, besides those already mentioned, and her brothers Messrs C. B. Dunn, Awanui H. C. Dunn, Kirikopuni, and 11. Dunn of Kaitaia. There were no children. A large number of relatives and friends gathered on Monday to pay their last respects to one who was held in high esteem in this district. The funeral service was conducted by the Rev. B. Prior Williams and the deceased was laid to rest beside her parents in the Kaitaia Anglican Cemetery.
