Fatal Burning Accident A very sad accident befell the infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bert Bosher on Sunday, 29th November. While playing in the yard she stepped into a hole containing hot ashes and was very severely burned, succumbing to her injuries three days later. Much sympathy is extended to the bereaved parents by the residents of Russell. Transport of Cars The Bay of Islands Harbour Board is building a causeway at Matawhai Beach for the transhipment of motor cars crossing the harbour. It is hoped that barges will be able to use this approach down to half tide. Croquet The Anal contest for the Kororareka Croquet Club Challenge Cup was played recently and was won by Mr. Frank Clow who will hold the Cup till next year’s tournament is played. Improving Bowling Green Water pipes were laid today by the Russell bowlers from the windmill well owned by Mrs. Clow to the bowling green. It is hoped by this means to greatly improve the green. Shipping The day of arrival of H.M.S. Veronica has been altered to the 19th of January instead of the 18th. The New Zealand Shipping Company’s liner “Rotorua” is expected to arrive at Opua. about January the 2nd to load 1000 carcases of frozen meat. New Buildings Mr. Partridge who drives the service car between Russell and Whangarei is now in occupation of his new dwelling in Church Street, Russell. Mr. Francis Arlidge has also built an attractive bungalow facing York Street.
