Ngawha Springs Road
Purchase Proposal Rejected by Public Works Minister
So far, the attempt by the Member for the district to interest Government departments in helping to secure the use of the road to the Ngawha Springs to the public, has produced little result. The Minister of Public Works, on the plea that the road is not needed to give access to farm lands, does not feel justified in spending any money in that way, but thought his colleagues in charge of Mines or Tourists might be interested. But these Ministers, hard-pressed to finance their present responsibilities, did not think they had any responsibility to the road. But the matter is not to be allowed to rest there.
FAREWELL TO MISS POLDEN The Kaitaia Anglican Ladies’ Guild held a very pleasant and informal reception on Thursday afternoon, 29th, to bid farewell to Miss Polden, who has been engaged in Maori missionary work in the parish for the past eight years. As a parting gift Miss Polden was presented with a handbag containing a purse of silver by Mrs. Trill on behalf of the Guild and the many friends Miss Polden had made during her stay. The vicar expressed regret at the loss of her valuable services among the Maoris, and wishing her many years of health and happiness. Little Wendy King presented the guest with a bouquet of roses. Musical items were given by Mesdames Trill, King and Salvair, a violin solo by Miss Zena Masters, accompanied by Miss Eileen Masters on the piano, while Mr. Trill gave a recitation. Miss Polden is residing at Bombay.
