Farewell to Mr. McLean As Mr. McLean, having resigned his position as County Foreman, is to leave the district shortly, a farewell in his honour was organised and held in Pye’s Hall on Thursday, -October 22. This function took the form of a smoke concert which was continued well into the night. Mr. W. H. Lane, the County Chairman, was unfortunately absent owing to qn attack of influenza. Mr. McLean’s departure will be regretted not only because he has carried out his duties efficiently in his official capacity, but also because »he has identified himself with local sport in no uncertain manner. Repairs to Totara Wharf Shed

At the last meeting of the Whangaroa County Council the Building Com-

mittee was instructed to make investigations regarding the erection of a new shed on the Totara wharf. The building is to cost not more than £250. The present shed has been found far too small to hold the supplies of fertiliser which are landed on the Totara side of the harbour during the spring and autumn. The opinions of those who make most use of the wharf are to be considered, and the committee will submit a report at the next meeting of the Council. Women’s Division N.Z.F.U. Several members of the Kaeo branch attended the meeting at Ohaeawai of the North Auckland Provincial Conference on Tuesday, 20th. Subsequent on the ‘resignation of the then president, Mrs. Ferguson, who is leaving the district, Mrs. W. H. Lane, president Kaeo branch, was elected president of the conference. The Ohaeawai ladies entertained their guests with their usual hospitality. Labour Day Tennis Despite the fact that the weather was a little boisterous, many enthusiasts were in evidence on the Kaeo tennis courts during the whole of Labour Day. Although at times during the morning and early afternoon light showers fell, play was uninterrupted, and the day was thoroughly enjoyable. An impromptu dance was held in the evening in Pye’s hall.
