The bi-monthly United Service will be held next Sunday at 8 p.m. in the A. and P. hall, Kaitaia. The subject will be “Is Christianity a Dead Letter?” Special music will be given. YOUTH SUNDAY AT KAITAIA Last Sunday was celebrated as Young People’s Day in the N.Z. Presbyterian Church, and two very successful services were held in the Kaitaia church. The morning service was devoted to the Sunday School children, and the gathering in the church of bright faced young children on an ideal early summer morning was a very pleasant sight. The service was a responsive one, largely conducted by the young people themselves, the pulpit platform being occupied by three young girls ; Jean McKenzie led the responsive reading of the 103rd psalm, Isabel Cowie the
Scripture reading, the story of the rich young ruler, and Margot Sturmfels the prayer of intercession. The
Rev. D. M. Martin gave a short bright talk on “Two Famous Ha’pennies,” the sitory of the widow’s mite, as illustrating the joy of giving.
The evening service was largely for young men and women, of whom there was a large gathering, and was again largely led by members of the Bible classes with dignity and without undue self-consciousness. Myrtle Wallace, Will Alford, Tui Sturmfels, Rob McKenzie and Gordon McKenzie taking part. The Scripture reading was Romans XII, “The Joy of Service,” and the address by Mr. Martin, “Why Christ for our sakes became poor.”
