Waipapakauri Racing Club

Preparing For Annual Meeting A meeting of the Waipapakauri Racing Club was held in the Library Hall on Wednesday last. There was a poor attendance. Mr T S Houston, President, occupied the chair. Mr L A Mclntosh acted as secretary pro tern. Much dissatisfaction was expressed with the balance sheet as presented, and it was finally decided to get the balance sheet printed and circulated amongst the members. The annual meeting was fixed for September 26th at 2 p.m in the Northland Theatre. On the motion of Mr J Leydon, seconded by Mr J Paton, Mr N McDonald was appointed acting secretary and it was decided to call for applications for the position of secretary. dr Houston stated that he felt sc.e over the action of the Minister of Internal Affairs, granting a permit to Dargaville to race away from their home ground after he had turned down a similar suggestion from this club. Mr Fleming stated that the Waipapakauri Racing Club was the only country club that had not raced in the metropolitan area. Mr J Leydon thought the club should get the member for the district to use his influence to obtain the club a permit. He suggested a deputation wait upon the member. The Minister had broken his promise and we have

got that as a weapon said Mr Leydon. Mr Fleming said that the Club had made nothing out of the Kawakawa meeting, and we should be given a permit. The matter was left until the annual meeting. A general discussion took place on the queen carnival organised by the Club. The committee was dissatisfied with the manner in which the matter had been dealt with. It was contended that the various queens had been treated very unfairly. Money had not been kept account of, and the organisation was badly managed, it should be gone into, as it had been a farce from its inception. The matter was left over until the annual meeting.
