Isabella de Fraine Wrecked Hokianga Harbour Tragedy Schooner Dashed To Pieces. Eight Lives Lost. [Age Special Service] Auckland this day. A tragedy of the sea took place at the mouth of the Hokianga Harbour late on Saturday afternoon last, all the members of the crew perishing. The names of the crew were : Captain ABerridge, Mr D Teixiera, Mr A Kenrick, Mr H Trevarthen, Mr E Merrit, Mr F Liewendahl, Mr A Suvanto, and Mr E Kennedy. The capsizing of the schooner was the work of a moment. In a flash she had turned completely over. For a minute the derelict rocked on the shells. Then she staggered and disappeared from sight beneath the merciless waves with her human freight. It is believed the hull of the schooner is held below the surface by the anchors which are caught fast in the rocks. The Isabella de Fraine was carrying 50 tons of cargo from Auckland to Hokianga when she was wrecked. At present the question of salvaging is being discussed. Mrs (Captain) Berridge is the third of her family to be widowed by the loss of a sailor husband.
