Woman Insults Judge.
And Later Apologises,
There was a heated scene at the Trowbridge Wiltshire County Court, after Judge Gwynpe James had found against Miss Flora Slade, of Bradtord-on-Avon in an ejectment case. Miss Slade, who was the plaintiff in the action declared: I have been treated unjustly and wickedly. The Judge; Stand back. Miss Slade: You have treated me abominably. The Judge; Madame, stand back. Miss Slade : Don’t you try me too far. I know you Judge Gwynne J?mes. The Judge (leaving the Court); Madame, you will remain until iny return and I shall have something to say to you. lam going to give you a few minutes to recover your temper. On his return, the Judge said : You have grossly insulted the Court, and 1 have powers to send you to prison and fine you. If you are willing to apologise I shall take another course altogether. Miss Slade, having apologised the Judge said: “I accept your apology. 1 have never had anybody so mile to me in a Court of Justice. I can only imagine you lost yuur head.” Miss Slade : Can I appeal ? The Judge: Leave the Court.
