FAIRBURNS CONTRACTS.

(To the Editor). Sir,—Will you allow me a little space i to reply to Mr. Stuart’s feeble attempt to be funny. With regard to paying overtime that depends on the class of labour you employ and the terms under which you employ it. No, Mr. Stuart, I am no loafer nor have I yet found it necessary to crawl after any councillor or even hang round the county office looking for snip jobs. But if I do, a tip from.you might come in handy. I received no over-time, nor was I looking for any. What I wanted was a good road instead of a sea of mud which we have at present. In your first letter you said the crusher did 20 c yds per day. In your last you say 25 c y per day. Keep on, John, and you will soon have it up to my estimate. No, this is not the same crusher I saw 20 years ago and I think the stone was going through that one too fast for you to have been the man in charge. Yes, I gave Cr Kitchen the figures but with no intention of stabbing you in the back, as these figures could have been got by Cr Kitchen looking up the tally book. Yes, a workman is judged by his work; that is how I am judging you. No, 50 yards per day would have made no difference because if necessary I would then have had a mate. lam not butting out of my turn into others affairs, for surely as a ratepayer having to plow through rand upfothe axle through somebody’s bad management I have a right to say something. Now, Mr, Stuart the cows are all in and I have no more time to answer any more letters, so in conclusion let me tell you after watching fob-burn road for the last two years I think you have less ability to be a contractor than I have on this subject or even my boar pig has on astronomy.
