FARMERS’ UNION.
(By R. Alexander, Official Reporter).
NEWS FROM HEADQUARTERS.
RAILAGE OF CREAM A matter discussed at the Executive Conference was the exposure of cream to the weather at small railway stations, and it was resolved to ask the Executive to look into the question and see what could be done. Speakers pointed out that as the Agricultural Department desired to raise ; the grade of all dairy produce the ' Railway Department should be willing to assist by giving the necessary shelter to cream during transport. Discussion showed that there were difficulties to be encountered, but it was agreed to refer the matter to the District Traffic Manager, and Messrs Morrison, and McKenzie were appointed to represent the Union. HERD TESTING The published statement that the Union had opposed the payment of a Government subsidy for group herd testing caused some strong comment to be made. Mr. Huey, the Provincial Secretary, made it quite plain that he had never written to the Associated Chamber of Commerce on the subject, and as the rumour originated from the Te Kowhai branch it was decided to ask that body for an explanation. POLITICAL SITUATION After the Executive meeting had concluded the supporters of the Country Party discussed the political situation, and most encouraging reports were received from various parts of the province It is hoped to make definite announcments with regard to several candidates at an early date. Mr. H.J. Sweeny, the selected candidate for Bay of Islands, was present and after addressing the meeting was enthusiastically approved.
