ADVANCE AWANUI.

MORE IMPROVEMENTS. UP-TO-DATE PICTURE HALL. For years Evans’ Hall, the property of Mr Walter L. Evans, has been the recognised place in Awanui for meetings of all descriptions, grave or gay, and was also the home of the local picture show. Lately the Hall has proved inadequate for the needs of the district, and Mr Evans decided to renovate and enlarge the building, bringing it into line with the requirements of the district. The first thing was tolengthen the Hall by an extension of 22 feet, bringing it right out to the edge of the footpath.

In the front of the building are two offices, one occupied by the Bank of New Zealand. Electric light has been installed through out, and all kinds of other improvements effected. The seating accomodation has been improved, and a number of tip-up spring seats has been put in. It is intended to eventually complete with these. Mr Evans has gone into the picture business, and has installed a complete new and up-to-date plant. A 5 h. p. Lister Engine has been put in, Dynamo by the British firm of ThomsonHouston, Simplex Projector. There is installed one of the very latest improvements in picture showing, an Age-arc Mirror Reflecting Lamp. Pictures are to be shown Mondays and Saturdays. A start has already been made with gratifying results. A free opening night was given on Monday, March 3rd, there being a good attendance.

Mr. Evans has every confidence in the future of Awanui, and deserves the success his enterprise will undoubtedly bring him.
