FIFE AND DRUM BAND CONCERT.

A very successful concert and variety entertainment took place in the Northland Hall last Tuesday evening. The programme consisted of plantation songs and breakdowns by the “Northern Juvenile Stars,” a number of our youths of Kaitaia, who under Mr. T. Willis’ tuition acquitted themselves most creditably, and kept the large audience highly amused. Mr. Willis was unfortunately unable to be present, owing to an attack of asthma and bronchitis, but Mr. C. A. Robiason saw to the Minstrel Troupe, and Mr. Frank Puckey presided most efficiently at the piano. Master Claude Ramsey acted as “ Massa Johnson,” and the following boys were the minstrels Masters Tyler, H. Rowe, W. Armiger, Ron Armiger, Reg Armiger, Jack Armiger, B. Keeper, and N. Wrathall. Songs were contributed by the Misses Tyler, Rowe, and Hart, a euphonium solo by Mr. McMahon, accompanied by Miss Wooihouse, and two clever and nicely executed dances by Miss Thelma Berry. Mr. A. Bell, President of the Fife and Drum Band, thanked the audience on their behalf and referred to the good work the Fife and Drum Band was putting in, also the Boy Scouts. A character song, “The Three Old Maids of Lee,” was given by Misses Tyler, Rowe and Bateman, accompanied by Mrs. Allen Bray; and a funny farce, “ The Stage Manager’s Troubles,” completed a most enjoyable entertainment, the Minstrels all appearing again on the stage to join in singing “ God Save the King.” A dance, kept up till 12 o’clock, followed. We learn it is the intention of the “Northern Juvenile Stars” to visit Awanui on Wednesday next, where we hope another well-filled house will greet their appearance. The takings amounted to almost £ll, which after deducting amusement tax and a few other expenses, leaves a balance of about £8 for the Fife and Drum Band.
