STOCK BUYERS IN THE NORTH.

Mr F. Mathews, of Matthews, Jacombs & Co, buying agents for Sims, Cooper, & Co, made his preliminary trip to the Far North last week, prior to the opening of tjie feezing Works. We took the opportunity of having a chat with Mr Mathews, who will be back in the district again shortly. Mr Mathews expects his" prices any day, when the firm will get busy -buying all classes of fat stock. The most saleable will be light weight mutton and lamb, and ox beef. Indications point to the grading being more servere this year, and sellers will be well advised to see that nothing but very prime stuff is sent forward, fmuling will be back to pre-war standard. During requisition time rough stuff was sent forward which got N. Z. meat into bad repute at Home. Moerewa works are opening on Dec Ist, and will have a couple of weeks’ killing before knocking off for Christmas. A start will be made again soon after New Year.

The slaughtering dispute "has been settled on the basis of last years wages.
