[TO THE EDITOR] Sir, —I am surprised that Mr McDougall writes about Kaitaia Chamber of Commerce not minding their own business and to stop minding his business and that his Union will protect every inch of ground. Well that will come soon enough more especially if we have many Britishers roaming at large expressing sentiments when every man, woman and child in the North knows that something will have to be done, and done very soon, if not there will be trouble when the Second Division is called up, as a Second Division man myself I would not shift till this matter is decided. I would like to know if McDougall is a Storekeeper if so I can understand his feelings in the matter (the Almighty Dollar creeping in again). Britishers are wanted at the Front and I should say that it would be better for some people to be there than roaming the country talking rot, 1 don’t want to say anything about your Union I leave that to the Kaitaia Chamber of Commerce to answer, but I will say this that McDougall is not a far seeing man or he would not say what he does. It only means one thing to my mind, of course I may be wrong, and that is a few people that are interested in the gum trade resent interference in this serious matter, and I am thankful that we have a Chamber of Commerce to grapple with these matters. The Taihoa policy is a thing of the past in the North, and Chambers of Commerce are in every centre, and 1 trust that McDougall will agree with me that they are doing good work. “SECOND DIVISION MAN.”
