PATRIOTIC CONCERT
The Concert and Dance in aid of the Kaitaia Patriotic and Red Cross Fund was held in the Kaitaia Hall on April Ilth. There was a good attendance considering the state of the weather. The gross takings amounted to about £l4. The following was the programme— Overture, (violin and piano) Messrs Northwood and Moody ; Song, (encored) Serg. Major Milne: Recitation “Farewell to Soldiers” Miss Head; Song, Mr. Perkins! Song “ Invitation ” Mrs. Earnshaw ; Recitation, “Not Understood” Rev Drake; Song, Mr. Coulam; Song (encored) “ Special version Rule Britannia ” Mr. F. Walker; Song, Mrs. Glynan; Short Exhibition of Hpynotism by Prof. De Lardain. Interval. Overture, (violin, cornet and piano) Messrs Northwood, Taylor, and Moody ; Song, Mr. Hodgson ; Song Mr. Perkins; Song, Mrs. Earnshaw; Duet, “Where are the Boys to-night” Misses White ; Trombone Solo, “Death of Nelson ” Mr. Taylor; Song. Mrs. Glynan! Song, Sergt. Major Milne ; Farce, “ Who Died First, Messrs Palmer, Garton, Hodgson, and Coulam.
A vote of thanks to the performers was then proposed by Mr. Grigg, and was carried by acclaimation.
A FAREWELL TO SOLDIERS ON FINAL LEAVE FOLLOWED.
Mr. F. H. Matthews, president of the Patriotic Committee presided. The Committee and departing Soldiers stood on the platform. The soldiers who were leaving were Messrs Cashman, Don Matthews, Cashbolt (present), Messrs Par jin, Vercarmer, W. Walker, and Blackman were unable to attend. Speeches were made by the Chairman, Mr. E. Saunders> and the Rev. Drake. Mementos were then presented to the soldiers, and are to be forwarded to those who were unable to attend. The farewell concluded by the singing of the National Anthem and For they are Jolly Good Fellows, and three ringing cheers. There was a good attendance at the Dance which followed. The music was supplied by The Awanui Orchestra and was much appreciated. An excellent supper was provided by the ladies of the Red Cpgss Committee. The whole entertainment reflects credit on the energy of the Secretary and Committee.
