TOTARA NORTH.

(From our own Correspondent.) The Rechabite picnic took place as arranged on Easter Monday. The local tent, Whangaroa, issued a great number of invitations to their little outing and these had the effect of bringing about 140 people to the rendezvous, Laurence’s wharf, notwithstanding the fact that the sky was not very portentous. The means of conveyance were provided by Messrs. T. M. Lane and Sons. The camping ground was Hutu's Bay, where, the tide being favourable, aquatic sports were indulged in. The luncheon following was appreciated highly. Then came races on the beach and a tug-of-war won by the Non-Rechabites. Several times during the day rain fell but, as it seemed to become worse it was decided to go home about 3 o’clock. As the committee had made excellent arrangements it was a pity that the weather was bad. We regret to record the death of the wife of Mr. J. Coulter, a highly esteemed resident of Totara. The news was received on Monday, 4th, from Auckland, where the deceased lady had gone for her accouchement. The funeral took place in Auckland on Wednesday, the 16th. Mrs. Coulter leaves a family of four young children, including a newly born infant; so the bereaved husband deserves the sympathy and help of all his numerous friends.

The Crome Bellringers, who showed here on Wednesday, 13th, gave a splendid performance far outdoing the average country show. Hope they come again.
