Association Cricket.

In submitting the averages to our readers we take the opportunity of congratulating the Northern Club on winning the championship for the season and on the excellence of their performances. The luck of cricket may, in a sense, be said to have been with this year’s champions but this in no way detracts from their well deserved success and only bears out the rule that in orioket determination to win goes far to bring and merit victory. For the purpose of comparing the doings of the teams we give the total runs scored, wickets taken and aggregate averages of each club as determined by an examination of the Association matches. The Northern scores totalled 770 runs for 102 innings, the average being 7.55 per wicket. They took 95 wickets at an expense of 681 runß giving the bowling average of 7*17 exclusive of extras. Mangonui notched 1194 runs for the loss of 74 wickets, their batting average per wicket working out at 16.13. In the bowling department 94 wickets were taken for 733 runs, the team’s trundling average working out at 7.8. * The Victorians played 98 individual innings for 1149 runs and averaged 11.72 per innings. With the ball they took 101 wickets at a cost of 799 runs, this average being at the rate of 7.91 per wicket. Kaitaia made 892 runs for 144 innings played, the batting average of the side being 6.19. This eleven secured 97 wickets at an expense of 943 runs their trundling average being 9.72. Waiharara scored 277 runs for the loss of 90 wickets, an average of 3.07. They captured with the ball 60 wickets for 599 runs, practically a trundling average of 10. The foregoing gives a very fair idea of the strength and weakness of the respectiue olubs, though it must be remembered that the sundries have not been calculated in the bowling totals and only wickets taken with the ball have been included in the calculations made. The following are the full tables: — The Championship.

N.B.—Waiharara forfeited to both the Northern and the Mangonui toams.
