Hokianga County’s Clerk.
At the Annual meeting of the Hokianga County Council upon the motion of Cr. Grounds seconded by Cr. Hartley it was decided to go into Committee for the purpose of dealing with financial matters and also to consider the question of tho appointment of Engineer, deterred by former Council. Upon resuming at 2.30 o’clock Cr. Hartley moved that the Council engage an Engineer to be separate from the County Clerk. Seconded by Cr. Yarborough and carried. Cr. Andrewes moved that Mr. E. McLeod be re-appointed Clerk and Treasurer for the ensuing year at a salary of £l5O per annum. Seconded by Cr. Glover. An amendment was moved by Cr. Hartley that the salary be £175 per annum. Seconded by Cr. Shapland Ayes (3), Hartley, Shapland, Downey, Noes (5), Glover, Andrewes, Yarborough, Grounds and Olendon. Amendment lost. The original motion was then put and carried, Councillors Hartley and Shapland dissenting in respect to salary. —“ Hokianga Times,”
