I see that the Hon. Millar is perplexed over the decreasing number of children. Mr. Millar being the Minister for Labour should know that under our splendidly organised system of unionism no woman whose husband ns a member of a union is allowed to become the mother of a child after 5 o’clock in the evening or before 8 o’clock in the morning, and also that births are prohibited on all public holidays, Labour Day, St. Patrick’s Day and a host of other days. Fuither, it is proposed by the Workers’ Federation to bring the country settler’s wife into line, as the present unfair competition is inimical to Unionism.

.. It is to be hoped that none of our settlers will be mean enough to take advantage of the slaughtering reduction in fares as announced by the N.S.S. Coy. for fleet week. These reckless bursts of generosity must cause serious loss to the Company, especially when one takes into consideration tho extremely low fares on ordinary occasions,

The legal fraternity in Mangonni evidently believe in the old saying that there is safety in numbers, and it is proposed to form a fire brigade in the township to be composed exclusively of lawyers. It is to be hoped that the brigade’s services will not often be required, but the training of its members may prove useful to them in the hereafter.

Depaitcd is tho glory from Waipapakauri! A writer from there bewails the fact, in pathetic language, that he spends one and two-thirteenths of a penny per week, without getting adequate return for his money. Men in all ages have called upon their gods when in distress and this sorely afflicted one from Waipakauri calls on on earthly deity who bears the homely and familiar name of “ Dick.” In addition to losing his coin Waipapakauri also complains of having his toil ridden off. Never mind; cheer np, Freddie! You’ve still got your tale of woo and the villains will not be able to ride that off so easily. Now Dick !

I hope, Mr, Editor, that you will use your influence with the Government and urge the passing of tho 11 Absolute Minority Bill ” this session, as some of our gallant and public-spirited young men who have announced themselves as candidates for parliamentary honors won’t have a fair show unless this becomes law.
