WHANGAPE.
(From our Own Correspondent),
During tho lust two dreary months Wlmngape has been very dull. The roads are almost too had for man or beast and the sooner we get our new member the better; then we will expect great doings. The recent very severe gale Ims caused shipping people some anxiety. _ On Sunday tho s.s. Oljinemuri towed in the St. Kilda, not without great risk to both. Much unrest was caused on Sunday night and Monday by the non-appearance of the Ohinomuri after leaving Wlmngape, with pontoons in tow, for Owhnta. When the steamer did not got into Owhata it was thought she would put hack into Wlmngape. Evidently the bar was too bad and she ran to Kaipara for shelter, where she will remain until the weather moderates.
The forthcoming event, the visit of the American fleet to New Zealand waters, is causing not a little excitement, consequently a number of people anticipate a trip to Auckland during Augu.t to witness the grout reception. The Mitchelson Timber Co. are having an addition put on to the mill in the form of a .saw doctor’s shop. They are also building two new houses, so that Whangape is beginning to look up. The mill is cutting well as usual and the timber yard looks full and tidy. July 7th, 1908.
