SERVICEMEN SETTLEMENT Four further properties recently acquired for the settlement of ex-service-men on the land are included in the monthly statistical review for October issued by the Rehabilitation Department. One comprises 765 acres at Maungaturoto, North Auckland, another a 347-acre property a few miles from Palmerston North, which is being settled by five ex-servicemen, as dairy Vomers. The third, also dairying land, is near Eketahuna and contains 200 acres, while the fourth is about 80 acres in the Hokianga County, North Auckland. This is to be amalgamated with part of an adjoining property taken under Section 51 and is then being made available for the settlement of a Maori ex-serviceman. Another property, near Dipton, Southland, was recently disposed of by ballot, there being six ex-servicemen applicants for the one sheep-farming section which was offered on a wages basis until improvements have been completed. Altogether by the end of October 142,790 acres had been acquired under the provisions of the Small Farms Act 1932-33) for the establishment of exservicemen, and 8382 acres compulsorily | under Part II of the Servicemen’s Settlement and Land Sales Act.
