COMPULSORY MILITARY TRAINING
REJECTION SEEN AS RETROGRADE STEP Canberra* Nov. 29. Attacking the rejection by the A.L.P. conference of compulsory military training in favour of the voluntar} r system, the leader of the Country Party, Mr Fadden, said it was a retrograde step which must have serious repercussions abroad, especially in those countries with which we were most closely allied during the war. He said the decision must lower Australia’s prestige in the eyes of the world because it showed that now the war was ended the Government refused to take adequate measures for our future defence. It must affect our right to a vcice in Pacific defence questions.
