SURPLUS CARGO GEAR NOT ALLOWED UNDER LENDLEASE Auckland, Nov. 27. “The matter has been taken up with the Americans, and we find that it would be contrary to the provisions of the lend-lease arrangement for them to dispose of their gear to the board,” said the engineer-superintendent, Mr D. Holderness, at a meeting of the Auckland Harbour Board. A member had asked if it were true that a quantity of modern cargo working equipment used by the water division of the United States Joint Purchasing Board at Auckland would be available to the harbour board now that the Americans were ceasing operations here. “What will probably happen is that it will be dumped.” said Mr Holderness. “They would willingly let us have it, but under the terms of lendlease they may only dispose of the gear to the Government, which may not dispose of it to other concerns. It may be that the harbour board could be .instituted as coining under the Government in this matter, but the Americans say not.”
