INFANTS’ FOOTWEAR
STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS ISSUED Wellington, This Day. The issue of a standard specification for infants’ footwear below size 7, for children of pre-school age, has been announced by the Minister of Industries and Commerce, Mr Sullivan. He explained that this specification supplemented others already issued relating to footwear for older children and adults. ’’The standard specification,” said the Minister, “has been prepared in full collaboration with the manufacturers, workers, retailers and other affected interests. It lays clown the minimum requirements in respect of the materials, component parts and workmanship which enter into the manufacture gf infants’ footwear. “Any manufacturer of footwear which conforms to the standard specification may obtain a license to use the standard mark as a certification of its standard of quality. In this way manufacturers of quality footwear will be protected against the false competition of inferior lines, and consumers will be able to distinguish footwear which con_ forms to the standard specification from that which does not dp so.”
