The Commerce Department announced that the United States between Ist July, 1940, and 30th June, 1945, built 3013 military and other installations abroad a + a cost of 2,413,000,000 dollars. She also shipped 42,021,000,000 dollars \ orth of lend-lease aid and more than 800,000,000 dollars worth of civil relief supplies. Ninety-five per cent of the construction abroad consisted of military installations and over half the total amount —1,327,000.000 dollars financed the building of bases in the British Commonwealth. Expenditures were largest in Canada where 370.000,000 dollars were spent principally on highways and air bases. Then came Australia and New Zealand combined with 236,000,000 dollars, various Pacific Islands with 192,000.000 dollars and Atlantic and Caribbean defences with 186,000,000 dollars spent.
