AIR FORCE ASSOCIATION

NELSON BRANCH TO BE FORMED Over 40 members and ex-members of the R.N.Z.A.F. and R.A.F. attended a meeting at the Fighting Services* Club last evening with the object of forming a branch of the Air Force Association. The convenor, Mr R. A. Stedman, explained that the Air Force Association had been formed in Auckland some months ago and a Dominion executive elected. He explained that membership was open to members or ex-members of any of His Majesty’s Air Forces, including the Fleet Air ! Arm and to members of the Air Tralnj ing Corps who were eligible for and I had applied for service in the Air Force.

The objects of the association, he added, were to further the spirit of i comradeship and mutual help amongst members; to promote and maintain the interest of members in all matters aeronautical, and to co-operate with other organisations having similar objects. Explaining this last clause Mr Stedman statri that he considered this meant assisting the local Aero Club by active support, and ‘assisting the I Returned Services’ Association and the I Homeservices’ Association to give rei lief and help to members by supplying I them with all information possible. The meeting had been called to decide whether a branch should be formed in Nelson and it was unanimously resolved on the motion of Mr J. Campbell, seconded by Mr D. Sutherland, that application be made to the Dominion executive of the Air Force Association for permission to form a branch of the association in Nelson. The following provisional committee was elected: Miss J. M. Howell, Messrs D. Sutherland. G. M. Davies, C. F. Scott, S. R. Duncan, E. Haines and R. A. Stedman. This committee is to make all arrangements for a meeting to officially form the branch on receipt of advice from the Dominion executive. Thirty of those present made application for membership and a membership drive will take place prior to the next meeting which will be held in about three weeks time. At the next meeting the officers of the branch will be officially elected. '
