TRANS-SIBERIAN RAILWAYS
EQUIPMENT PURCHASED FROM BRITAIN London, Sept. 10. Soviet experts are buying millions of pounds’ worth of new rail equipment in Britain and America, says the ‘Daily Express.” The purchases are intended for the modernisation of the trans Siberian line from Moscow to the Soviet ports of Vladivostock and Kharbarovak. This will be supple- I mented by a trans-Russia air mail passenger service and will make the journey from London to Shanghai possible in five and a-half days. It is i expected that new Diesel type of loco- | motives will cut down from nine to I six days the railway journey between I Moscow and Harbin. New Siberian ! expresses will be among the finest de | luxe trains in the world. TransSiberian railways during the war have been completely double-tracked and in some places quadrupled.
