PUBLISHING VENTURE
REBUFF FOR SCHMELLING? STATEMENT BY BRITISH CONTROL COMMISSION London, Aug. 28. The correspondent of the Associated Press of Grea Britain in Germany says the British Control Commission stated: “The publishing firm with which Max Schmelling is associated and for which h« is understood to operate in financial matters, has been told it will not be given a license so long as Schmelling is associated with it.” A member of the Control Commission said: ‘Schmelling was the symbol of Nazism for German youth during the war. We don’t want such a man publishing books for what he contends will be the re-education of German youth.” The correspondent adds that the authorities expect to start an inquiry into reports of British backing for the Schmelling publishing venture.
