CHEESE CONSUMPTION
The rationing of cheese is considered unnecessary in New Zealand, reports a statement by the Economic Information Service, because, official figures show that New Zealanders on an average eat 1 Aoz. of cheese a week, actually less than Britain’s wartime ration. aud tbougu cheese is not couponed like butter, it* local sale is restricted; the quantity a factory may sell on the local market cannot exceed the amount sold locally by that factory during the 1942-48 season. Against a total domestic consumption of 74,000 ewt. annually. New Zealand in the 1938-39 season produced 1.705.27Tewt. of cheese, and in 1941-42, 3,153,lSlewt. In 1942. New Zealand achieved its peak export figure of L'.OSS.OOOewt. of cheese.
