“NOT NEARLY ENOUGH”

DECENTRALISATION OF INDUSTRY (From Our Parliamentary Reporter) Wellington. Aug. 29. Not nearly enough had been done in the way of decentralisation of industry, contended Mr R. G. Gerard (National. Mid-Canterbury), in his Budget speech in the House of Representatives. In decentralisation of industry housing was one of the questions that had to be kept very much in mind. To assist in the establishment of industries in the country towns houses should be built in those places, industries would get out into the more healthy* country surroundings and further amenities would be brought into the country. He would like to see a rural bias in education. Far too many boys and girls were going to seek their living in the cities and he would like to see that drift arrested.
