ISLANDS OCCUPIED'
London, Aug. 28 ‘•Troops of the first Far East Army, south of Chamchatka, in conjunction with units of the Pacific Fleet have occupied the isi&nds of Shiphiry, Urup and Uturup in the southern Kurile Group” states a Russian communique. “Troops of the Second Far East Army have captured the entire southern part of Sakhalin and yesterday more than 36,000 Japanese surrendered to the Russians.”
