TASMAN
Thanksgiving services were conducted by Rev. Robert Blair in the Presbyterian churches at Tasman, Mapua and Upper Moutare, on Sunday August 19th, a considerate section of the community joining heartily in the services. At the weekly meeting of the Adult Education" Group. Mr D. G. Johnstone, filled the position of leader, and effectively opened the discussion on "Some recent applications of Electricity.” The attendance was good and the subsequent discussion indicated a very keen interest in the problems and triumphs of electricity. VICTORY BALL A victory ball arranged by the chairman and committee of the Tasman Social Club was held in the Central Packing shed. Good music, a spacious floor with a keen and enthusiastic team of organisers quickly established a real spirit bf happiness and ail present expressed their pleasure by joining heartily in each item on the lengthy and varied programme. SOCIAL CLUB The annual meeting of the Tasman Social club was held recently. The report and balance sheet indicated a year Of useful and efficient service, especially among the younger section of the community. By means of socials, dances, card evenings. Ping Pong, games, musicial sessions and cbmmuhity singing many happy gatherings had been carried through and substantial sums raised to swell the funds-of Patriotic and Benevolent fefforts. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year;—president Mr T. Blundell, ! vice president; Mr N. Herd: treasurer. Mr W. Sarnty; hon. sec. Mr L. J. Hayward. HILLS FRUITGROWERS’ UNION Mr H. J. Chignell presided over a general meeting of members of the Hills Fruitgrowers’ Union on Saturday evening. The business before the meeting was a import on the recent Dofninion Conference of Fruitgrowers’ in Wellington. Messrs H. J. Chignell and F. Archer reported fully on the work of the Conference dealing especially with the problem of post-war marketing. Other matters discussed were cool storage for Mapua. road improvements and increased ceiling priced: for fruit
to cover rising costs of production. Spring services were conducted by Rev. R. Blair, in the Presbyterian churches at Moutere, Mapua and Tasman on Sunday. In each instance the buildings were attractively decorated with spring flowers and loliage and despite dull weather conditions the congregations entered heartily into the i spirit of the season.
