COUNTY COUNCIL'S ATTITUDE
REFUSAL TO STRIKE A HOSPITAL RATE Whangarei, This Day. County Council last year refused to strike a hospital rate Tho Treasury thereupon diverted to the Hospital Board subsidies Which would in the ordinary course have been paid to the county council for roads hnd other maintenance purposes. The Public Works Department took over the maintenance of main highways in the countv and the council undertook to pay the charges allocated by the Department for the work done. Yesterday th e council by a majority vote, refused to pay an account for £382 19s received from the Department, representing 25 per cent, of the cost involved.
