MISSING WAR PRISONERS
ONLY 49 N.Z. MEN UNACCOUNTED FOR Wellington, This Day. The number of ex-prisoners of war in hospital in the United Kingdom has now been i educed to 223 out of the total of 5100 at present remaining in the United Kingdom, according to the latest information received from London by the Acting Prime Minister, Mr W. Nash. Referring to his earlier statement concerning New Zealand prisoners on the Continent who are still unaccounted for. Mi Nash said the total of such prisoners had now been reduced to 49, which must be considered a highly satisfactory figure, since it was understood to be the lowest for any Dominion. Moreover, of this lota! the authorities had received unconfirmed reports concerning the whereabouts and activities of 24. Every endeavour was being made to locate personnel unaccounted for and to confirm various reports received and next-of-kin would be advised at the earliest possible moment. —P.A.
